RheTech History

1968

RheTech is founded in Detroit, Michigan.

1968
1970’s

In 1970, RheTech relocates to the current site in Whitmore Lake, Michigan to allow for future expansion.

RheTech’s core business model is grinding, blending, and brokering scrap parts from local plastic molders.

1970’s
1980’s

RheTech transitions its business strategy to becoming a custom plastic compounder.

RheTech gains a foothold in the automotive market by securing approvals to specifications and developing new compounds, including olefins and engineered resins to meet automotive needs.

RheTech begins transitioning from single screw extrusion technology to twin screw extrusion technology to improve product quality and consistency. Warehouse and bulk storage capacity are added to accommodate the growth of the business.

1980’s
1990’s

RheTech continues to grow and expand into consumer and industrial markets. All single screw extruders are replaced with twin screw technology. The Whitmore Lake facility expands to accommodate growth.

RheTech’s Whitmore Lake Laboratory receives ISO/IEC Guide 25 accreditation (Certificate # 0874.01) in 1997.

RheTech opens a second unit in Fowlerville, Michigan in 1997.

RheTech obtains ISO 9001/QS9000 registration in 1998.

In 1998, through acquisition, RheTech expands into color concentrates and additives and opens RheTech Colors in Sandusky, Ohio.

1990’s
2000’s

RheTech’s Whitmore Lake Laboratory receives ISO 17025 accreditation (Certificate # 0874.01) in 2002.

RheTech upgrades its quality management system by obtaining registration to ISO 9001:2000 in 2004.

In 2005, RheTech enters into a licensing agreement with Owens Corning under which RheTech will manufacture and sell in North America a proprietary long glass fiber-filled polypropylene developed by Owens Corning.

In 2009, RheTech sells it’s long glass fiber-filled polypropylene product line to SABIC Innovative Plastics.

In 2009, RheTech introduces a new bio-fiber reinforced polyolefin line called RheVision.

2000’s
2010’s

RheTech expands into the engineered resin market and by opening RheTech Engineered Plastics in Blacksburg, SC in 2011.

2010’s
2015

RheTech Inc. acquired by HEXPOL Compounding.
